In the past 16 days I have sent just 5 daily (🙄) newsletters.

I have varied excuses. Right from travelling to a location where there was no workable Internet connection (yeah, bang in the middle of capital city New Delhi) and low level heat stroke to emotional stress.

But today’s post is not about that.

Today’s post is about what happened when I did not send the newsletter.

The most overwhelming feeling was guilt. For not writing. For not keeping my promise of sending a newsletter everyday. For letting my readers down.

And the next one was restlessness. Until midnight, which is my internal deadline for sending the day’s newsletter, I kept trying to write, even if I was not up to it physically or emotionally.

And that’s when I realised that over the past ten and a half months, writing the newsletter everyday has become so ingrained in my habits that I felt incomplete and uneasy not doing it.

That’s what a habit does to you.

Get things done automatically, as second nature.

And pull you back on track even if you fumble or skip a few days.

Which habit are you trying to build these days?
