There are two aspects to setting boundaries.

Identifying the boundaries that you want to set.

AND

Communicating them to the people involved in it.

Usually we do the first part, i.e. identifying the boundaries.

But,

Fail to communicate it to those affected by it.

For instance, suppose you don’t want to work on Saturdays.

In that case, you will need to communicate this clearly to your boss or manager or team members.

You can’t just “hope” they get it through your indirect cues!!

Or, you have client days on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and don’t want to be disturbed between 9 am and 1 pm.

Communicate it to your partner, househelp or anyone else likely to interrupt you.

The ACTION STEP for today is this:

Identify a boundary you have been struggling with some time (or a long time).

Make a list of all the people who need to be informed of your boundary.

Inform and explain them, and see how it goes.
