Today morning, when I got up, a sudden anxiety gripped me.

This week is hectic for me because I will be travelling with my younger daughter, while others stay at home. So I need to plan for their stay as well as our travel.

And then there are work commitments as well as other personal responsibilities that are never on vacation, even if I am. They always occupy their fair share of mindspace.

But what triggered the anxiety was reading a newsletter that made me feel overwhelmed. Because I felt that despite working so hard I was not where I professionally wanted to be. Heck, I was not even where I wanted to be in my personal journey.

And just like that I spiralled down to a dark place within a span of few minutes.

But I was aware that I couldn’t allow myself to dwell there because, well, I have a hectic week ahead of me!

So I took my escape route – reading a book.

I abandoned my daily morning routine of walking because stress was making me feel the pain in every bone.

And dived into the book I am reading. In case you are curious, it’s a David Morrell classic – The Brotherhood of the Rose.

An hour and half later, I felt much better and much ready to take on the week and the world.

It’s not that I was not feeling guilty of not following my routine, but I accepted that I needed to devote this time to get over my anxiety.

I repeatedly talk about being kind to yourself and the importance of self-care. Today was one such day and I couldn’t help sharing with you.

That’s why even though I had planned something else for today’s newsletter, I shared this. Hope this helps at least some of you.

But this also raised a question I want all of you to answer honestly.

QUESTION TIME

What is your escape route from bouts of stress, anxiety or overwhelm that are inevitable at times? Do you even have one?

Let me tell you, we all need one.

That’s all for today.

Adios and Happy Thriving!!
