Have you ever thought why we write?

When I pose this question to my creative writing students, here are the top three answers:

  • to send messages
  • to share our unique ideas
  • to tell others what we are thinking

Others are variations on these three themes.

Well, here is my take: we write to communicate. And I prefer writing to speaking.

Because when we speak, we straight away share what we are thinking, without any censoring, which might be hurtful or too much information or unnecessary for the listeners.

But when we write our thoughts to communicate, that allows us to think again, and we only communicate only what is necessary.

What do you think?

Is writing a better way to communicate than talking?

That’s all for today.

Adios and Happy Writing!!
